Until November 2015, Kate was the Coordinator at Parents of Deaf Children, the NSW peak body for parents and carers of children who are deaf or have hearing loss, for nearly 10 years. Prior to that, Kate worked in the IT arena, primarily in HR training and had a small business for six (6) years. Kate’s lived experience of parenting children with a hearing loss and the work she undertook to support families of deaf children, prompted her return to academic study. In that time her ministry has been mainly education - teaching in Primary and Secondary schools and Administration in different states. She was also Chaplain in a Women's Correctional Centre and served in Team Leadership with the Sisters. Currently June is semi retired, assisting at Santa Sabina College and Bakhita Centre Homebush. He also established the Deaf Education Network and as Chairman of Deafness Resources Australia was an integral member of a team which established the Australian Communication Exchange (National Relay Service). As part of its centenary celebrations, Peter was included in the Deaf Society's list of 100 people who have made a significant contribution to the community.
